Why visit the Alcázar of Seville

Tourists at Alcazar of Seville with Seville Cathedral and Giralda visible in the background.
1/5

Centuries of history etched in stone

Originally built in the 10th century during Moorish rule, the Alcázar has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. Each era left its mark, resulting in a remarkable fusion of architectural styles that tells the story of Spain’s complex past.

A palace with present-day purpose

More than just a historic monument, the Alcázar remains an active residence for the Spanish royal family during their stays in Seville, making it Europe’s oldest royal palace still in use.

Gardens that rival the palace itself

Spanning seven hectares, the Alcázar’s gardens are a vibrant oasis filled with reflecting pools, exotic flora, and the occasional peacock. They make up over three-quarters of the complex and are a destination in their own right.

From heritage to Hollywood

The palace’s beauty captivated millions when it appeared as the kingdom of Dorne in Game of Thrones. This pop-culture cameo brought a new wave of visitors eager to experience its cinematic charm.

Part of a prestigious trio

Together with the Seville Cathedral and the Archivo de Indias, the Alcázar forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site—an honor it has held since 1987 for its cultural and historical significance.

Things to know before booking Alcázar Seville tickets

  • The Alcázar complex is vast, and you can book Entry Tickets to explore at your own pace. These tickets are timed, which means entry is guaranteed. You also get the option to upgrade your ticket to get a multilingual audio guide or a skip-the-line guided tour in English. The highlight is that all tickets to the Alcázar include access to the stunning Alcázar Seville gardens.
  • If the scale of the palace complex intimidates you, and you’d prefer having an expert guide you through its various halls and the vast gardens, you can book a Skip-the-Line Guided Tour of the Alcázar. You can also combine this with a Guided Tour of the Seville Cathedral and the La Giralda.
  • If you’re a keen history buff and don’t want to miss out on a single detail of your guided tour, the Small Group Guided Tour will be the ideal ticket for you. With a group of no more than 10 participants, you can listen in on every detail—a more intimate experience overall.
  • You’ve also got a bunch of combos to choose from. These are a great way to combine a visit to the Alcázar with other key attractions across Seville. One option is the combo with the Seville Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour that gets you a 24 or 48-hour pass with a total of 14 stops across the city. Another combines the Alcázar with tickets to Isla Mágica & Agua Mágica, an amusement and water park just 3.6km from the palace complex.
  • Last but not least, the Theatrical Night Tour of the Royal Alcázar offers a truly unique experience. It's a unique nighttime dramatization of key moments from the Alcázar’s history, an experience that takes you on a journey back in time through Spanish history.
